On the outskirts of bustling Marrakech, hidden amongst palm trees and masked behind an imposing ochre doorway, travellers will find one of the city’s hidden treasures.
The Lodge K Hotel and Spa, located in the Palmeraie district – one of the top places to visit in Marrakech – is an oasis of calm and tranquillity. Perfect for a romantic weekend getaway or a relaxing retreat, the hotel’s amenities make for an ideal base when exploring the magic of Morocco.
To set the scene, the front doors open up to a lush landscape, dotted with palm trees and a circular pool taking centre-stage. Sun-loungers skirt the pool’s boundary, and guests are encouraged to spend days lazing leisurely on the wicker chairs soaking up the hot summer sun.
Off to one side of the pool is a large patio area, with plush sofas and comfy armchairs where guests are served refreshing cocktails, light snacks and hearty meals. At night, fairy-lights and dim lanterns transform the area into a romantic haven of calm.
Exquisite Accommodations at Lodge K Hotel & Spa
The lobby area also extends as a huge lofty dinning and lounge room where guests are able to enjoy freshly prepared meals – from breakfast through to dinner and everything in between. Breakfast is a smorgasbord of authentic Moroccan breads, fresh fruit, made-to-order eggs, pastries, and pots of rich coffee. A seasonal menu is offered during the day, serving up traditional Moroccan cuisine with locally sourced ingredients full of flavour.
Lodge K Hotel & Spa does not, however, have any real rooms in the traditional sense of the word. Instead, it boasts five luxury lodges scattered around the edges of the grounds. The aesthetic effect of these imposing tents evokes an image of an ultra-extravagant campground.
Each of the Moorish tents are individually decorated with different themes. For instance, guests can choose whether they would prefer to stay in the African, Egyptian, or Balinese lodges.
The Exquisite Art Deco Lodge
I was posted in the Art Deco lodge, a sprawling open-plan space which takes guests back to the golden era of 1930s France. It’s painfully, romantically bohemian with three grand brass lanterns emerging overhead from the folds in the tent providing dramatically dim lighting and basking the room in an ethereal glow. The dark hues of burnt orange, deep greens and chocolate tones dominate the space keeping with the exotic, warm, and elegant flair.
I counted no less than eight rugs sprawled throughout the lodge. On one side of the room is the living area with a deep-seated leather sofa, cushy armchairs, a handcrafted coffee table, and working fireplace. Crossing to the opposite side of the room, a massive four-poster bed swathed in sheaths of fabric and framed by real spears is oh-so inviting.
Cabinets and shelves run one length of a wall displaying statues and artefacts from a bygone era. Then, an arch in the wall opens up to a phenomenal bathroom. Featuring his and hers handbasins and a massive sunken bathtub all bathed in natural light, it is the epitome of opulent tranquillity.
A Magical Luxury Hotel in Marrakech
Each lodge is filled with exquisitely curated artwork and exceptional furniture unique to its theme, with very few modern touches. The necessary essentials are all there, though: an unassuming TV in the corner, a modern stereo system hidden within a solid wooden cupboard, and central heating/cooling. But these are more of an after-thought because guests are encouraged to unwind here, to switch off and melt into a state of complete relaxation.
It helps, then, that this elegant Morocco luxury hotel has its own spa, hammam, and wellness centre. To put visitors in a state of complete zen, the spa offers treatments such as massages, facials, and reflexology, as well as a full hammam scrub and even yoga classes. The experience leaves you feeling completely renewed, invigorated and acutely relaxed.
Lodge K Hotel & Spa is truly the type of luxury place to stay that makes your trip to Marrakech a little bit more magical. It’s far more than just a place to rest your head. Rather, it’s an all-inclusive luxury ‘staycation’ with a commitment to phenomenally high standards in its service, comfort, amenities, and food.
